About speakers:
Dr. Weian Zhao completed his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry at Shandong University (China) where
he studied polymer, surface and colloidal chemistry. Dr. Zhao then obtained
his PhD in Chemistry
at McMaster University (Canada) in 2008. During his PhD study with Dr. Yingfu Li and Dr.
Michael A. Brook, Dr. Zhao focused on the use of functional nucleic acid (i.e. aptamers, DNA based enzymes) to structure gold nanoparticles to construct well-defined nanostructures and
biosensors for point-of-care diagnosis. Since 2008, Dr. Zhao has been a Human Frontier Science
Program (HFSP) Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and
Women's Hospital
and MIT working with Dr. Jeffrey Karp. His current research focuses on the development of
novel molecular, nano- and micro-engineered tools for stem cell therapy and regenerative
medicine, diagnosis and in vivo imaging, and elucidating stem cell and cancer biology.
Dr. Zhao published more than 30 research articles including Nature Nanotechnology and Nature Materials, 5 invited book chapters, and has 2 patents. He won numerous prizes including
"Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Student Abroad" "Selected
participant of the 60th Meeting of Nobel Laureates, Lindau, Germany", "
Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Award" and "NSERC Innovation Challenge Award," Dr. Zhao is an
invited guest editor for Journal Nanotechnology on a topic of Nanobiotechnology.
Dr. Wayne Feng is a graduate of Xiangya Medical school. He came to US after medical school,
studied stroke rehabiliation with Dr. Edward Taub at University of Alabama at Birmingham, then
had Master Degree in Biostatistics and worked for Eli Lilly & Company
as a biostatistician in Neuroscience Division, then He matched Neurology Residency program at Medical University of
South Carolina. Currently He is a clinical stroke fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center,
working with Dr. Louis Caplan(Godfather in stroke care) and Dr. Gottfried Schlaug( world expert in neuroimaging). Next month He will be a faculty member at stroke center
at Medical University
of South Carolina as well adjunct faculty member at Center of Neurorehabilitation. His research
focuses on stroke epidemiology in middle age population and stroke recovery
with non-invasive
brain stimulation. He is board certified in American board of neurology and psychiatry, board
eligible in vascular neurology. He is member of American stroke association, American statistics
association, American academy of neurology. He is editorial board of Journal of Neurology and Neurophysilogy, also ad hoc reviewer for Journal of stroke, neurology, neuroepidemiology, etc.
