HMS-CSSA is pleased to invite you to a career path event on Sept. 7, 2011. The invited speaker is Dr. Dejun Shen (M.D., Ph.D.), Surgical Pathology Fellow at the Department of Pathology, BethIsraelDeaconessMedicalCenter. Dr. Shen was the research director and an assistant professor at Gonda/UCLA Breast Cancer Research Laboratory prior to his pathology residency training at LAC+USCMedicalCenterat Los Angeles. He finished a breast pathology fellowship at BIDMC last year and currently is a surgical pathology fellow at same institution. Dr. Shen is aiming at an academic career and is active in translational research even during his clinical training. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and 10 of them were published during his residency/fellowship trainings. In year 2009, Dr. Shen won the most prestigious award for pathologist-in-training, the STOWELL-ORBISON AWARD, at 98th USCAP at Boston for his research work “Tumor Proteomic Profiling Predicts the Resistance of Breast Cancer to Chemotherapy”. Dr. Shen was recently recruited as a clinical attending physician at one of the nation’s top medical schools-University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. The topic of his presentation will focus on how to become a physician, to survive through the residency and to find a great clinical position for those who had a medical degree in China and want to practice medicine in the United States.
